To Savannah and Back in 48 Hours

Sometimes you just need a last minute trip with the girls, and that's exactly what we did. I want to preface this whole thing by saying that we practiced social distancing and wore our masks every single time out in public, inside/outside, unless we were drinking and/or eating... or sliding down a slide because honestly we just forgot them, You'll get to the slide part, don't worry.

This was probably one of the most unplanned, sporadic, last minute, and shortest of trips I've been on- and that's saying a lot for me because I used to do these kinds of trips often. But, I love traveling, and the last couple of years I haven't been able to do much of it (especially 2020 because, you know...) so when this offer came up to go to Savannah, a city I've never been to, of course I had to say yes.

While Paige and Erin left on Friday, my friend Teri and I had a baby shower to attend Saturday. We loaded up on Red Bulls and hit the road at about 6 pm. Luckily, I was riding with a fellow Swiftie, so we played through the entire Folklore and Evermore albums, and then maybe we played them again. Six hours later (don't ask how fast we were driving), we arrived to a very ghost-like town (not complaining because you know, pandemic and all). We saw a few people, but it was far from a typical late Saturday night.

We stayed in the center of the historic district at the Altmayer Building (sorry I didn't get any pics here!), where the 4th floor houses beautiful loft apartments with high ceilings and open floor plans. As we were getting in the elevator, a few kids, and by kids I mean 20 somethings (man, I feel old), joined us and had to help with the code to get to our floor. I'll never forget when one girl told us you had to press the "hash" after the code (*facepalm*).

Our first morning we set out to find a local coffee shop, and stumbled upon Blends a Coffee Boutique which was just a block away from our building. From there we walked around, admired the architecture, window shopped, and found our way to our brunch spot where we had made reservations at The Grove- which I definitely recommend doing as the line was already wrapped around the corner to get in before they had even opened! We sat in the rooftop bar area, put our phones in a pile, and had the best time laughing and drinking and eating. The service was great, although they did turn the music up to like club-level volume at one point (here I am being old again). But like, it was really loud.

My favorite part of this day was just exploring the town, stumbling onto beautiful things, like the Cork Store- which 10/10 recommend. We took the death stairs (so steep) down to the river walk, walked through the amazing lobby of the Marriot Hotel, and found this really cool outside bar with an amazing bartender who became our best friend for a bit.

We then found our way to another rooftop restaurant, called Electric Moon, where they had a slide- yes a SLIDE - and not just for children!

We took in the views, then moved on to do a photoshoot in the middle of the road because I needed some new photos of me for my social media, website, etc. Plus I had just gotten my new camera so I wanted to show it off.

One of the funniests parts of our day was when we were taking some pictures in this really cool alleyway and a group of girls came up to us and asked to take their picture. Insert full on photoshoot mode with me and my camera. I gave them my business card and told them to text me so I could send them their photos. We all became instant best friends for about ten minutes, and Erin really wanted to party with them, but eventually we all parted ways. Erin was really sad. LOL.

As I'm sure you were already sensing a theme, we found one last rooftop restaurant for the day called Sorry Charlie's where we watched the sunset, enjoyed some beverages, and soaked in the view of the beautiful town we'd been exploring all day.

Because I am who I am, I made us go back to our apartment to change outfits for dinner. We dined at a place right around the corner from our building called The Collins Quarter- an Aussie-styled café, bar, and restaurant. I ordered a steak, which I never do, but let me tell you it was amazing. 10/10 recommend this place if you ever visit Savannah.

After our delicious meal we left to meet up with a group of strangers to do a ghost tour with Ghost City Tours. I think I can speak for all of us (except for Paige) when I say we wanted a scary ghost experience, but were left feeling a little underwhelmed (which I'm sure Paige was thankful). I enjoyed it more so for the architecture we got to see and the stories we got to hear. I don't think I would do it again, though. We ended the day with a nightcap and midnight snack at McDonough's Pub (mainly because it was the only place open lol) and then made our way back to our comfy apartment.

Our second and final morning (I know.. I told you it was a short trip) we found a rooftop restaurant that *surprisingly* we hadn't been to yet, called Peregrin. We made reservations *lol* and were the only ones there for our entire meal. It was absolutely stunning, though. It had a cool tropical, almost LA-vibe to it, with faux grass and beautiful décor. We probably should have checked the weather that morning, though because the wind was just out of control (hence why no one else was there). We moved from an outside table to table by the bar with heaters and one of the bartenders came straight from heaven to bring us some blankets. Unfortunately I didn't get any photos here because I was too focused on staying *warm*.

After brunch we walked around a little more, got some coffee, shopped until we couldn't anymore (mainly me-hello vintage thrift stores!), and then got on the road to head back home.

Recap:

-Would literally recommend any bar and/or restaurant that is in the historic district of Savannah because I *literally* don't think you can go wrong there.

-Would maybe not recommend the ghost tour.

-Definitely recommend walking around/exploring without planning it out too much.

-Wish we would have done the trolley hop on/hop off tours. Next time.

-Also, recommend running into a bachelorette party.

xx Amy
